The Electric Universe

the electric universe detailnemesisThe Electric Universe   is the cover painting for my first solo instrumental CD of Space Music: The Electric Universe. The painting is based on the idea that a rogue star and it’s planets are hurtling towards our solar system from deep space and the closer they get to Earth, the more drastic are the physical changes to our planet, eventually resulting in asteroids crashing into every continent and giant earthquakes, volcanoes and tidal waves devastating the cities and towns of our civilization. The painting captures the chaos of the closest passing when the moon is ripped into a new orbit and cosmic lightning bolts arc across the heavens.

Based partly on ancient legends, myths and science, The Electric Universe is a collection of instrumentals that tell the story of each incident in the cataclysm, beginning with the first exciting discovery of a distant neighbor star, then anticipation turns to dread as the star and it’s satellites begin to disturb the Ort cloud and the orbits of the outer planets. The drama increases as the Nemesis hurtles through our elliptical plane, sending asteroids and it’s own celestial debris through the inner planets like shotgun blasts from the void. Then the planets start sweeping through the sky like billiard balls and the stars turn upside down as our world spins in space. Finally, after an eternity of ever increasing calamities, the waves recede, the lava cools, and the earth calms down for a respite from the tragic fall of man.the electric universedetailearth At the end, one last lullaby is heard for the shattered moon that still hangs in the darkness of the dawn.

After I completed the CD of my space music, I painted this picture for the Cover and then, completely inspired, I wrote a poem for the liner notes, which I included in my Science Fiction Poetry book, The Mercurians. Pretty good results, getting three projects out of one idea.

This painting is for sale on my Etsy site.
