Golden Beauty In A Storm

My first official Portrait, I based this painting on a friend who was having a myriad of Work and personal problems. This painting was an attempt to create an improvisational version of a pencil sketch and introduce an emotional context that the sketch could not convey. A combination of abstract and comic art elements that draws upon my pen and marker portrait series: Dracula’s Daughters. This painting is available for a limited time for $100, plus shipping. Since the 5^th Grade, I have been writing poetry. Its been nearly over 50 years since I first began. I have self published seven hand-stitched books of poetry: Four Chapbooks and three mini-chapbooks. In my persona as Vlad, The Gypsy Bard, I am a member of The Niri Senti Gypsies, the Undead Poet’s Society and have read with The League of Vampiric Bards and at Coffee Houses, Dance Performances, Gothic and Science Fiction events.

An excerpt from my one of my favorite books, The Kiss of the Vampire:

Poor beauty, I am so sad you have enchanted me,
The world should have you as it’s wonder,
For more than nine days time.

Poor angel, you are too young to miss,
The ten thousand nights to come.

The stars are calling you,
But you cannot hear them,
For I have held you in my arms,
And put my mark on you,
And come heaven or hell,
I will have you.

Mystic Skull Paintings

I painted a little in high school, but was mainly interested in drawing and sculpting. After a disastrous car accident that derailed my Theatre career, I decided to draw and paint to help in my recuperation. The painting took a while to get going as I cast about for a style and subject matter. Abstracts had interested me the most in high school, so I tried that and then I remembered a common theme from both my Celtic and Native American cultures. I started painting mystical skulls and then doing skull and crossed bones Pirate Flags, some even based on Shakespeare’s plays, and displayed them at Renaissance Festivals, Comic Conventions and Galleries.

The Mystic Skulls call to mind the different cultures and legends of skulls of power. Some are adorned with magical symbols and esoteric clues to hidden messages, some are meant to lead the viewer inward to explore the subconscious mind, and some are inclined to alarm and alert the sleeping mind.
